Copper(II) carbonate basic, also known as basic copper carbonate or copper(II) carbonate hydroxide, is a chemical compound with the formula CuCO3·Cu(OH)2. It is naturally found in minerals such as azurite and malachite and is characterized by its dark green monoclinic crystals. Cupric carbonate basic is insoluble in cold water and alcohols, decomposes in hot water, and is soluble in acids, ammonium hydroxide, and potassium cyanide solutions. Upon heating, it decomposes to form copper(II) oxide, carbon dioxide, and water. Due to its high initial discharge capacity, it is being considered as a promising candidate as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
